After a long wait, Lionel Messi has finally accomplished his lifelong ambition of winning the World Cup. It is a major milestone in his career and one that will surely go down in history as one of the greatest moments in football.
The Argentine superstar had already tasted success at club level before but had often failed to deliver with his national team. Despite being considered one of the greatest players ever, he had never been able to win a tournament with Argentina until last summer when they beat Brazil in the Copa America final.
This year’s World Cup final marked the dawn of Messi’s chance to finally write his name in history books by winning the world cup for his country and cementing himself as a legendary player. The final match against France was undoubtedly tense went into extra time and ended with a 3–3 draw. Ultimately, Argentina won 4–2 during penalties.
While many of us may not be able to fully comprehend what it must feel like for him to have achieved such success, there are some important lessons we can learn from Messi’s journey and subsequent success. Firstly, it proves that hard work and dedication can take you far; despite all of his individual successes at club level, Messi had yet to win anything with Argentina until 2021 when he won the Copa America.
