Making impulsive decisions can be a common occurrence in our lives. From making a decision to buy something we saw online, to making a snap judgment about someone, impulsiveness is part of our everyday life. But why do we act so impulsively and why can it be so difficult to control?

There are many reasons why people make impulsive decisions. One of the primary reasons is linked to the way in which our brain processes information. Neuroscience research has shown that when making decisions, humans tend to rely more on their emotional response than on rational thought. When we have an emotional reaction, like feeling excited or angry, this releases hormones into the brain which increases our need for immediate action.

In addition, sometimes people make impulsive decisions based on learned patterns from their past experiences. For example, if someone was brought up in an environment where spontaneous and swift decision-making was encouraged then they may find themselves making more impulsive choices as adults as it is familiar and comfortable for them. On the other hand, if someone grew up in an environment that did not encourage quick decision-making they may find themselves struggling with impulsivity as they may feel uncomfortable with making any kind of decision quickly or without considering all possible outcomes first.
