Why We Need More Leaders Like Angela Merkel

As I watched a documentary about the life and work of Angela Merkel on Netflix, I was struck by her remarkable leadership qualities. Merkel was a no-nonsense, problem-solving leader, who always put the well-being of her country and its people first. Despite being constantly underestimated, she managed to become one of the most significant chancellors in the history of Germany. I came to admire her moral leadership and political courage, particularly during the migrant crisis in 2015.

Merkel’s approach to leadership was grounded in her scientific background. As a trained physicist, she was accustomed to analyzing problems logically and systematically. She applied this approach to her political leadership, always seeking to find practical solutions to complex issues. Merkel was never one to seek the spotlight or to make grandiose statements. Instead, she worked tirelessly behind the scenes, forging alliances and building consensus in order to achieve her goals.

One of the most impressive aspects of Merkel’s leadership was her handling of the migrant crisis in 2015. As hundreds of thousands of refugees flooded into Europe, many leaders were paralyzed by indecision and fear.
