Your iPhone and iPad have an awesome new security feature that you need to turn on now. It’s called Advanced Data Protection (ADP) and it was released as part of Apple’s iOS 16.2 update this week. ADP adds end-to-end encryption for data backups stored in iCloud, which means that no one can access your files without your permission, not even Apple or law enforcement agencies. This level of protection is essential because hackers are always trying to break into cloud storage, and if they succeed, they can get their hands on all your personal information such as passwords, financial records, and photos.

What makes Advanced Data Protection so great is that it is enabled by default when you set up a new device running iOS 16.2. All you have to do is toggle a tiny switch to activate the service and all of your current backups will be encrypted too. That means if anyone does manage to breach Apple’s servers or demand information from Apple about your account, nothing will be revealed since the data is unreadable due to the encryption process.

Even better: Advanced Data Protection isn’t just for iPhones and iPads — it can secure data across other Apple devices like Macs too. So no matter what type of computer you’re using, ADP has got you covered! As an added bonus, you don’t have to worry about subscription fees either, because the service is free with any iCloud account.

At the moment Advanced Data Protection is only available in the US but Apple promises that by 2023 users worldwide will be able to benefit from this amazing new security feature. Whether it’s protecting your passwords or keeping personal photos safe from prying eyes, Advanced Data Protection is something every Apple user should make sure they take advantage of right away!
